A piece of the Alaska forest transformed into one-of-a-kind art.
This original piece begins with a naturally grown Artist's Conk, locally known as Bear Bread, that I personally harvest and carefully process before painting by hand.
The naturally shaped surface features a stylized blue whale created with flowing, rosemaling-inspired scrollwork against a deep black background. Rather than hiding the organic character of the conk, the painting follows its natural form, leaving the warm, irregular edge visible as part of the finished artwork.
Once complete, the piece is sealed to help protect both the painted design and natural surface.
Measuring approximately 4 inches long × 2.5 inches deep × 3 inches tall, this piece is naturally freestanding and can be displayed on a shelf, desk, mantel, bookcase, or alongside other collected treasures.
