This naturally formed Bear Bread—also known as an Artist’s Conk—features a hand-painted humpback whale rendered entirely in flowing shades of blue. Rather than using solid blocks of color, the whale is filled with intricate, rosemaling-inspired curls, leaves, scrolls, and sweeping decorative shapes that follow the contours of its head and flippers.
The painted cream surface of the conk creates a beautiful contrast against the layered blues, while the untouched organic edge preserves the character of the original piece.
Each Bear Bread is harvested, carefully prepared, and painted individually. Because the shape, texture, bark edge, and surface of every conk are created by nature, this piece can never be exactly reproduced.
