A miniature Viking-inspired shield, built and painted entirely by hand.
This handcrafted wood shield features a bold red and muted gold cross design outlined in black, surrounded by a metallic silver rim with individually added faux nail details. A raised metallic center boss completes the traditional round-shield-inspired appearance, while subtle visible wood lines give the piece the character of a miniature plank-built shield.
Unlike a pre-made wooden blank, the shield itself is handmade from the beginning.
Each miniature shield is constructed by hand from individually cut wood pieces layered at opposing angles for strength, then shaped and sanded before being individually painted and detailed. The raised center boss is also cut, finished, painted, and assembled by hand.
A magnet on the back turns the finished miniature into a unique piece of functional art for a refrigerator, magnetic board, locker, or other magnetic surface.
Because these shields are constructed and painted individually, small variations and signs of handcrafting are part of the character of each piece.
